SPECIAL VACANCY!! Can you fill these shoes?

Posted by: | Posted on: May 10, 2017

Hello everyone! We had some sad news over Easter that our MUCH LOVED and very special Aunty Bumble ( Bee) is going to be leaving the good ship Lifehouse in the summer. She has been an AWESOME member of staff since we opened back in 2007 and has seen a host of children through their time here. Her contribution to success has been immense and I know that many of you might want to send in personal messages for her. Please feel free to post a card to her here, or write an email (via me). Bee is leaving to develop her Holiday Retreat and AirBnB, alongside husband Roger.  We wish them both every success. This does, however, create a MASSIVE gap in the staff team and so please find below the advert for the vacancy should you know anyone who thinks this might be just up their street. Its a big ask, but mighty rewarding!!

Chef/catering tutor & Kitchen Manager

An opportunity has arisen to become a very important member of the Lifehouse team as a catering manager at Bettws Lifehouse, an Independent Special School for children with EBD, ASD and MLD. The post is a FULL TIME contract, for a two year period initially, starting September 2017, and salaried per annum according to experience and abilities (£21 to £25K per annum).

The successful applicant will be an exceptionally skilled team player, ideally with experience of not only working in a busy kitchen under pressure, but also with some knowledge of the challenges presented by Special Educational Needs. We are particularly looking for someone who is capable of organising and managing all elements of the kitchen independently, to deliver
• Tasty, healthy lunches for approx. 25 pupils per day during term time
• Healthy snacks throughout the day
• Outstanding hygiene records and EHO compliance
• Knowledge of dietary requirements and allergy control
• Financial budget responsibility, Shopping and stock control

IDEALLY, the ultimate candidate would be prepared to have pupils working alongside them, to learn cooking and catering skills, and a fundamental, basic understanding of cooking for life in a healthy and sustainable way.

The ability to work independently, think on your feet and immerse yourself in the needs of the children will be paramount. … the kitchen is the heart of our school! We promote a child-centred approach in a nurture setting and a strong motivation to be an important contribution to a place that can make a difference for children will be central to your desire to work here. Opportunity for professional development will be actively encouraged.

The Lifehouse is very proud of its strong, skilled staff team and this position will be a key role within that team.

Applications are invited in writing (email or post) accompanied by a full CV to include references by Monday 5h June. Interviews will take place between Monday 19th and Wednesday 21st June.

Interested candidates are welcome to visit The Lifehouse by appointment.
